The expansion of a rubber mixing and tire production workshop in Zhejiang’s Anji Lingang Economic Zone covers over 80,000 square meters and features a single-story structure at a height of 14.4 meters. Based on green development and intelligent automated processes, the large-scale project presented planning, design, and construction challenges, as the complex concrete building and pipelines would be within an area 20,000 square meters smaller than traditional facilities. To meet construction goals, China Chemical Guilin Engineering sought advanced BIM technology.

They selected Bentley’s open BIM applications across all disciplines, improving productivity and shortening the design cycle. Using the software to dynamically visualize the construction process reduced on-site safety hazards and streamlined multidiscipline workflows, which is expected to shorten the construction period by 30 days. The 3D information model will be used for operations and maintenance to achieve full lifecycle BIM application and promote smart factory processes in the industry.

Hafencity Dresden is an urban transformation project to turn a dilapidated area into an attractive district that features a redesigned harbor, dining areas, a promenade, and a total of 18 new buildings for commercial and residential use. Given the large project scale and various software used by the planning and engineering teams, compounded by a tight schedule, Immograph needed interoperable construction visualization technology to integrate the multisourced, voluminous data and provide a high-quality 3D representation demonstrating the interaction among the various new infrastructure.

They selected MicroStation to process the immense amounts of data into accurate 3D models. The software’s modular and hierarchal modeling structure allowed images and models to be conveniently linked and simplified change management, reducing the time it takes to make changes by 20%. Using Bentley’s application significantly improved rendering and reduced file loading times by 40%. This proof-of-concept project was initiated to improve building certification and inspection works and to adopt 3D standardized specifications within Japan’s strict Building Standards Act. Five Technology was hired to transition inspection works from using 2D CAD methods to using 3D BIM data. City Tower is a 30-story skyscraper in Manchester that is served by over 50-year-old electrical infrastructure, requiring refurbishment and replacement. There were no existing building or equipment drawings, which presented difficulties in renovating and installing new assets and establishing new electrical routes within the limited footprint. To overcome these challenges, compounded by requirements to avoid disruptions to building tenants and consider future utility demands, they needed 3D digital technology to model the existing and new infrastructure.

They selected OpenBuildings Designer, along with third-party modeling software, to model the existing electrical infrastructure and design the new installation. To overcome these difficulties, implement safe construction, and meet environmental protection requirements, the construction team needed to establish a digitally connected data environment.

They selected ProjectWise to integrate design, construction, and collaboration among the multiple disciplines and implement digital data processes, improving control over project costs and schedule. Using ContextCapture for reality modeling and earthworks calculations optimized site planning and mountain protection, providing accurate topographic data and images. To help facility managers at Incheon National University locate assets and meet maintenance needs, Ko-Mapper initiated a 3D modeling project of campus buildings and surrounding outdoor areas. With more than 1,000 buildings and structures, as well as numerous assets included in each facility, the project presented data capture and integration challenges. They sought advanced reality capture and modeling technology to integrate images, point clouds, and geospatial data into an accurate reality mesh.

They selected ContextCapture to process data captured from laser scanning, drones, and LiDAR, and reverse engineered the multi-floor campus buildings and exterior site. Then, they generated a detailed, accurate, integrated virtual model that campus facilities managers use to visualize the exact location for work orders, reducing response time and improving quality.
