Thirty-five nations are collaborating to build the world’s largest tokamak in southern France, designed by ITER, to harness the energy of fusion and test the integrated technologies, materials, and physics regimes necessary for commercial production of fusion-based electricity. As a pioneer, international initiative, the project requires simultaneous construction activity among multiple contractors within a limited space, making construction coordination and management challenging. Brigantium Engineering is the engineering consultant responsible for construction and needed integrated 4D planning technology.
They selected SYNCHRO 4D to combine multisourced intricate data into a concise visual format, accessible to all project participants for better understanding of the construction process. The solution accelerated the construction schedule and significantly improved planning, analysis, and decision-making. Using Bentley’s application, they optimized and validated coordination of different work packages and the use of space. Through 4D construction modeling, they identified critical risks and clashes otherwise undetectable using traditional methods, ensuring timely completion of construction activities.
