When the New South Wales government announced a new state-of-the-art underground metro railway to address Sydney’s population growth, the project required relocating the existing speedway. The location of the proposed speedway, adjacent to the Western Sydney International Dragway, presented coordination and integration issues with existing infrastructure. To simultaneously deliver a digital asset at the time of construction completion, Sydney Metro required integrated 4D construction modeling technology for this 4D pilot project.

They selected SYNCHRO applications for digital construction scheduling and planning with the goal of using the models to develop an iTwin model. Bentley’s construction simulation software provided a clear, visual solution to the site team for moving construction equipment around the building. Through cloud-based digital workflows and images, Sydney Metro continually updated the model to track progress and issues, which provided the digital building blocks and a digital twin framework that resulted in a successful project delivery.
