To transform Hanam into a smart city, Korea Land and Housing Corporation and BasisSoft were retained to review the original 2D design and determine a 3D BIM approach. They faced challenges with incomplete design materials, a tight timeline, and modeling the almost 6.5-million-square-meter project area. Previous modeling applications lacked necessary design features and classification systems. They realized that they needed comprehensive, integrated BIM technology to digitalize the design process and create a basic set of data for development of the intelligent city.
They selected ContextCapture to generate a 3D geological model and OpenRoads to accommodate the large BIM data set, create road, river, and sewerage models, calculate earthworks, and review drainage options. Bentley’s modeling applications and LumenRT enabled accurate visualization to help them understand potential design errors. The integrated BIM solution helped them discover errors in the original 2D design, including 50 collisions, 30 drawing errors, and 10 potential design issues.
