Palu Steam Power Plant is part of a 35,000-megawatt electricity infrastructure development project initiated by the Indonesian government to fulfill electricity needs, specifically within the community of Central Sulawesi. The USD 2.2 million project presents complex equipment and structural building design, compounded by needing to overcome coordination challenges among the multiple disciplines. WIKA realized that the implementation of digital BIM workflows would help optimize construction management and collaboration.
They selected unmanned aerial vehicles and ContextCapture to survey the project area and generate an accurate reality mesh of the existing site. Using Bentley’s open modeling applications, they modeled the mechanical and piping layout, roads, and buildings, streamlining workflows and reducing design errors by up to 95% to save IDR 368 billion in design costs. The digital solution enabled WIKA to convert 2D drawings to intelligent 3D models within seven days, shortening design modeling by 15%.
