When AFRY and Tyréns wanted to review the conceptual design of Sweden’s 28-kilometer, double-track railway, they planned to conduct a traditional BIM review. However, it was time-consuming and presented risks of miscommunication and misinterpretation among the 30 disciplines that used over 23 software applications. They were wary of implementing a new technology solution on the six-year-long project. However, with COVID-19, they had to reevaluate their collaboration and their coordination model to enable a more streamlined, remote design review process.
The organizations selected the Bentley iTwin platform to facilitate a more efficient virtual design review. The user-friendly platform helped seamlessly transition to the new digital work environment and accelerated model accessibility by 75%. The digital twin solution saved 33% in design review time and 21% in costs, amounting to approximately EUR 20,000.
