The Manitoba MB MOOVES project was initiated to increase permit issuance for oversized/overweight vehicles along Manitoba’s 19,000 kilometers of provincial roads and highways, while reducing the burden on permitting staff through automated routing. The project presented varying climate-driven restrictions across four zones, creating complexities within Manitoba’s permitting rules and coordination challenges. They needed an interoperable technology solution to incorporate road network data from different systems and implement an automated routing and permitting system.
Already familiar with Bentley software, they selected SUPERLOAD to integrate road and attribute data from third-party systems to add extensive routing, analytics, and review options, streamlining permit application review cycles and eliminating manual interaction. The solution enables real-time checks of road restrictions based on vehicle size and weight, automatically notifying permit holders of any conditions impacting their travel. The evolution to a digital routable network provided the basis to automate calculation of permit fees and enable system issuance for up to 66% of Manitoba permits.
