One of the largest bus agencies in the world, New York City Transit’s Department of Buses operates over 5,700 buses and initiated an asset condition assessment program to objectively quantify their fleet’s condition. They piloted the project using manual methods that proved time-consuming, error-prone, and cumbersome when handling the voluminous data. Recognizing that their program’s success depended upon efficiencies in data collection, integration, tracking, and exchange, they explored a fully digital solution.
They selected Bentley’s AssetWise applications, configuring mobile devices and dashboards for efficient data collection and asset health calculations to make evidenced-based investment, maintenance, and retirement decisions. Working in a connected data environment with a single source of truth streamlines all asset data from multiple sources. Combined with analytics to quickly determine asset health, it reduced bus operating and maintenance costs. The digital solution is estimated to increase bus availability by 2%, resulting in a significant positive financial impact. Project
