Jalgaon is expected to grow rapidly to 6.6 million people by 2033 and to 8.4 million people by 2048. The Jalgaon City Municipal Corporation retained Nisarga Consultancy to augment the area water system and support the growth. Because the INR 327 million project required expanding the system, they had to survey the existing infrastructure and its alignment dead ends, then determine how to build into new areas. They needed geographic information system mapping tools to help them complete the design within six months.

The Nisarga Consultancy determined that they could create and validate models of the existing and expanded water systems with OpenFlows WaterGEMS. They quickly imported field survey work with the help of the application’s model building capabilities, which saved design time. The application helped them compare numerous different scenarios to determine the best design strategies and how to mitigate high water pressure. As a result, they finished the expansion design one month ahead of schedule.
